Our clients have the choice of two different ways to pay. One way is with a contingency fee agreement, the other is with an hourly rate.
Contingency Fee
Contingency fee arrangements work well for clients who cannot afford to pay an hourly rate. Most of our clients are represented on this basis. Generally, the percentage fees range between 33 1/3 and 40 percent, depending on the type of cases and the amount of expenses which must be invested.
Out of pocket expenses are paid by the firm throughout the pendency of the case. The clients do not pay those expenses until we make a recovery. From the recovery, we are paid our percentage fee as well as the expenses.
Hourly Rate
Occasionally, but not very often, a client prefers to pay an hourly rate, rather than have a case handled on a contingency basis. That is certainly a client's choice and we always offer this to clients. However, it does become fairly expensive and the hour rate fee arrangements require monthly payments, whereas contingency fee arrangements require no payments until the end of the case. Austin Mehr's hourly rate is $250.00 per hour effective January 2005. Our Associates hourly rate is $150.00 per hour. Paralegals hourly rate is $35-$50 per hour. This is comparable to other lawyers with a similar background and experience level.
COURT COSTS AND CASE EXPENSES WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CLIENT.
